Pink Bollworm (Pectinophora gossypiella) causes maximum damage to cotton. PBW adults are small, grayish brown, inconspicuous moths. When their wings are folded, they have an elongated slender appearance. The wing tips are conspicuously fringed. Young larvae are tiny, white caterpillars with dark brown heads. When mature, they are about 0.5 inch long and have wide transverse pink bands on the back. To be able to see pink bollworm larvae, against the white lint of the bolls, they have to be broken open. Eggs are very small, slightly elongated, and laid under the calyx of green bolls. Pink Bollworm is a devastating pest whose attack can result in upto 90% crop loss . Pheromone Dispenser / Lure
The Pheromone dispenser is in the form of a rubber septa or a translucent polymer capsule in which the active ingredient material is filled in. Each individual Lure/Dispenser is placed into a metpet/ aluminum foil pouch and sealed.

Application – How it works : Place the Lure/Dispenser in the Trap Lure holder and place the traps at various locations in the field just above the canopy level of the crop. As the active Ingredient is dissipated into the atmosphere, insects are attracted into the trap.Eventually they get entrapped in the trap and die because of the provision made in respective traps.
Lures are to be replaced every 4 to 6 weeks. Generally funnel sleeve traps are recommended. It is advised to use 8 traps per acre initially. Trap density may be increased upto 50 per acre depending on degree of infestation.

Trapless Auto Confusion Pheromone Gel
The Auto Confusion Pheromone is supplied in the form of a paste/gel in which the active ingredient is encapsulated in Nano particles in a paraffin wax matrix. This paste is loaded into plastic tins/bottles/tubes.

Color : Greyish brown.

Materials of Construction : Paraffin wax gel / paste in Polymer tin / bottle / tube.

Active Ingredients : Z,Z-7,11-Hexadecadienyl-1-acetate, Z,E- 7,11-Hexadecadienyl-1-acetate.

Effective life span in the field : Season long with 3 to 4 applications.

Application- How it works : Take or squeeze about 1 or 2 gms ice cream spoon and apply it as a dollop on the plant stacks - about 200 of them per acre. The pink bollworm moth attracted by the pheromone in the dollop rests on it, thus picking up a minute quantity of the pheromone. After sometime whole field is filled with the pheromone smell. This leads to auto confusion of all male insects present in the field, due to which mating between males and females does not happen. So the next cycle or generation of insects i.e, egg laying (ovi-position)-larvae - pupae-flying adults does not happen leading to drastic reduction of pest population. Thus over 50% to 90% control is achieved.
